INFINITI has been a name long synonymous with luxury and throughout the history of INFINITI, the car manufacturer has been setting and surpassing luxury standards. Despite only being in existence since 1985, INFINITI was quickly able to match, and then exceed, industry standards set by companies which had been in the space for much longer while also providing unmatched innovation to become the leaders in customer satisfaction. Here, we’ll take a deeper look at the history of INFINITI to see what’s made them become an industry leader in high-performance luxury vehicles.

The Beginning

The history of INFINITI begins in 1985 when an elite group within Nissan forms, brought together with the purpose of building a new division of performance luxury vehicles with a more human-centric design that would challenge the prevailing American and European luxury brands that had dominated the space for decades. In 1987, a name was chosen for this new line of performance luxury vehicles and just like that, INFINITI was born. With the feeling of forward movement taking hold, the now iconic emblem was designed, depicting two central lines extending into the horizon. This emblem also paid homage to Nissan’s Japanese origins, with the emblem also resembling the iconic Mount Fuji, and any history of INFINITI would not be complete without mention of Japan.

World, Meet INFINITI

While INFINITI car history dates back to the mid-eighties, it wasn’t until the late eighties that consumers were first introduced to what a human-centric performance luxury car could be. In 1989, INFINITI launched with 51 dealers in the United States and had two models available – the Q45, a convention-defying sedan, and the M30, a performance-oriented coupe. These vehicles, alongside the INFINITI Total Ownership program, quickly made the brand a competitor and in 1990 a third model – the G20 – was introduced.

The VQ Engine

No account of the history of INFINITI would be complete without mention of the VQ engine. In 1995, INFINITI introduced a thrilling new family of V6 engines – the VQ engine – that were optimized for power, torque, and fuel consumption. For the next 14 years, the VQ would rank among the World’s 10 Best Engines, an achievement that has yet to be matched. The VQ engine is the predecessor of the INFINITI Twin Turbo V6 engine and its success is one of the proudest moments in INFINITI car history.

Pioneering Innovation and Growth

INFINITI took a big leap into the new millennium, introducing RearView Monitor in 2001 and INFINITI Voice Recognition in 2002. Using external cameras, the RearView Monitor brought what was behind the vehicle to the in-dash display for an entirely new perspective and the pioneering voice recognition software gave drivers the ability to take command of their vehicle without taking their hands of the wheel. The G35 Sport Sedan and Coupe were introduced in 2003 and laned on Car and Driver’s Ten Best Cars list, a pivotal moment in the history of INFINITI. Thanks to these innovations and the G35 Sport Sedan and Spirt Coupe, the early 2000s were the best years the company has had thus far, and INFINITI car history really takes off after this.

More and More Innovations

The history of INFINITI is ripe with pioneering and 2007 saw two new innovations: the world’s first Around View Monitor and the Lane Departure Prevention system. The Around View Monitor elevated the parking experience, making it easier to maneuver a vehicle in and out of tight spaces, while the Lane Departure System not only alerted drivers if they were about to drift into a neighboring lane but also automatically compensated. In 2010 INFINITI introduced the world’s first Blind Spot Intervention system which senses other vehicles in neighboring lanes and automatically applies the brakes when needed. Then in 2012 INFINITI revealed another world’s first – Backup Collision Intervention, which detects what a driver may miss when going in reverse.

The Revolutionary VC-Turbo

After more than 20 years in the making, the revolutionary VC-Turbo, the world’s first production variable compression ratio engine, is introduced. The VC-Turbo is one of the most technologically advanced engines ever created and is capable of physically transforming on demand to give drivers the efficiency of four cylinders with the performance one would expect out of a much larger engine.

All drivers are likely aware of the phrase “share the road” but few know the rules of the road for vehicles and cyclists and how to effectively do so. INFINITI OF DENVER wants our drivers to coexist with cyclists to prevent accidents and injury and to help you avoid being ticketed for not following certain vehicle/cyclist road rules.

1. First, Stay in Your Lane!

The simplest tip to effectively coexist with cyclists is also the most obvious: don’t drive in the bike lane! Bike lanes are designed to give cyclists and drivers their own separate areas for each other’s safety, but drivers will often cut into the bike line, intentionally or unintentionally, to pass another vehicle, momentarily park, or give themselves more space. While it may seem trivial to just cut into the bike lane on occasion, it’s not a good habit to develop. Depending on the design of the road there could be a cyclist just over the hill or just around a bend that you’d have to swerve to avoid, risking your safety, their safety, and the safety of the other drivers on the road. Most accidents are caused when a driver doesn’t notice a cyclist and simply avoiding the bike lane in the first place can help you avoid an accident. This holds true especially at night considering over half of all bicycle accidents happen when it’s dark outside.

2. Passing Cyclists While Ensuring Safety

Passing cyclists while ensuring yours and their safety requires you to always pass on the left when traffic in the next lane over is clear. This requires patience so some drivers may need to adjust their attitude and remember the cyclist is also a person with their own right to the road. When passing cyclists, aggressive or impatient drivers will need to find a way to motivate themselves to give cyclists the room they need to stay safe on the road. Cyclists should be using hand signals to alert those around them when they are turning – a left arm extended straight out signals a left turn and either a partially raised left arm or a right arm extended straight out signals a right turn – so pay attention to these as well. Cyclists should also signal when they’re stopping or slowing down by extending an arm towards the ground. For a visual reference, consult page 10 of the Colorado Bicycling Manual.

3. Stay Alert

You should especially be aware and alert in urban areas, as there are already a number of distractions and oftentimes no bicycle lanes. Denver, Colorado is quite the bike friendly city and that won’t be changing anytime soon, so it’s good to familiarize yourself with the rules of the road for both cyclists and vehicles to ensure your safety and cyclist safety.

Understanding The Factors Affecting The Market

If you’re interested in buying a car in 2022, you may have noticed that many dealerships are suffering from a shortage of stock, and that vehicle prices are on the rise overall. The auto industry trends seem to be steady with continued challenges as we continue through the year, so it’s important to take a look at the factors that are increasing the prices of both new and used vehicles.

Chip Shortages

Modern cars are full of tiny computer chips or “microprocessors,” that are responsible for a wide variety of tasks – from operating the car’s radio to monitoring fuel injection, traction control, and more.

Unfortunately, a massive chip shortage is currently in progress, and is expected to last until the end of 2022. What this means is that microprocessor manufacturers are operating at full capacity but are still not able to make all the chips that automakers need. This, in turn, has led to higher prices and lower overall stock of new vehicles.

Pandemic Shutdowns

The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic shut down factories, distribution centers, and dealerships for months in early 2020, and while most of the world is now recovering, these shutdowns have had a “ripple effect” that has made it harder for car manufacturers to get the components they need. The effects of these shutdowns could easily persist within the auto industry for t well into 2022 or beyond.

Suez Canal Blockage

The massive container ship Ever Given blocked the Suez Canal for six days from March 23 to March 29, 2021. The blockage of this critical canal linking Europe, Asia, and The Middle East has had negative effects for many automakers, since it’s a very popular route for shipping automotive components and completed vehicles alike.

Increase In Pre-Owned Prices

Prices of used and pre-owned cars are jumping. Why? Mostly because new cars are scarce, due to the above factors mentioned, such as the chip shortage.
