Tips for Trading in a VehicleOne of the considerations many face when purchasing or leasing a new or pre-owned vehicle is what to do with their current car. Many believe they can sell their current vehicle on their own and achieve a higher price than they could when trading in the vehicle with a dealer. While this can be the case, there are several factors to keep in mind. First, selling cars is hard. You must first make the vehicle available for sale, then attract “prospective buyers” to your home or business, and then trust that their money is good or that they are who they say they are.

These factors do not come into play when trading at a reputable dealership. While you may be able to make the DIY system work for you, the best way to trade in a car is working with a trusted source.

How to Ensure a Safe Trade

Here are some tips for trading in your vehicle safely and effectively:

  1. There is a sales tax savings on the value of your trade-in. For instance, if your trade in is worth $10,000 and you live in an 8% sales tax area, your net realized value is $10,800, as you do not pay the 8% on the value of the trade. You would need to sell it for at least $10,800 to a private party to realize the same value.
  2. There are several “authorities” on used car values. Blue Book, Black Book, NADA, Edmunds, and Carfax are just a few of the many resources on used car values. However, these guides can differ by thousands of dollars on the same vehicle. The reason? They are all just guides, and opinions based on regional data and demand. While it is valuable to educate yourself on an approximate value, don’t focus too much on what one of these guides says. At the end of the day, a car’s value is based on condition, service history, and supply and demand.
  3. If you have decided you would like to trade in your vehicle, use some common sense when taking it to a dealership. First, clean it. There is only one chance to make a first impression. Sticky steering wheels, food under the seat, and a filthy exterior lead an appraiser to think the car has been neglected mechanically as well. Be prepared to show all the service history and maintenance of the vehicle. Also, if the car has had an accident or repair work, an invoice showing the amount will take the guesswork out of the severity and cost. Finally, any documents showing an extended service contract/warranty is a clear sign that the vehicle has been properly maintained and cared for and reduces the chance of costly repairs.
  4. Finally, if you have a pay off on a loan, know that amount and who the lender is. Nothing delays negotiation and paperwork like an incorrect payoff or being unable to locate the current loan.

INFINITI Lease Return Process

For some customers, returning a leased vehicle can be a confusing, arduous process. However, with a little advanced planning and preparation, it is a simple, relatively quick and painless process. The INFINITI lease return process includes some best practices to ensure a smooth, hassle free return of your leased vehicle.

  • Be familiar with your contract terms. Turning a car in late, early, over miles or to a different manufacturer can lead to problems.
  • Have the vehicle reconditioned if necessary. Fix a broken windshield, replace bald tires and have body work that would necessitate an insurance claim repaired. Minor scratches, scrapes, etc. are allowed and expected, as covered in the wear and tear section of your lease contract.
  • Contact the inspection service prior to returning the leased vehicle. An independent inspector will come to your home or office and do an inspection of your lease return. They will provide you with the results of the inspection shorty after it is complete, if not immediately. If you are present for the inspection, there will be no surprises and you can fix any damage prior to turning the vehicle back into the dealer.
  • Call the dealer to schedule a time to return your lease. Dealers are unpredictably busy. Walking into a busy showroom waiting to be helped with your lease return is frustrating and can be a lengthy process. By calling ahead, the dealer will be expecting you and be prepared with your information. Upon arrival, the entire process should take you no more than 10 minutes. You will be required to sign a termination form with current mileage and keys, that is all.
  • Within 2-4 weeks, you will receive a final lease return statement. This statement will reflect any final charges, including mileage penalties, excess wear and tear, unpaid lease payments, and disposition fees; if applicable. If there is a fee that you do not agree with or would like to contend, contact the lease return department. The phone number will be clearly printed on your statement. Do not contact the dealership, as they have no ability to negotiate or fix errors on lease return statements.

With the spread of COVID-10, we are facing new challenges and responsibilities in health and safety. To reduce the risk of infection and transmission in our workplace and in interactions with our clients, INFINITI OF DENVER is following the recommendations published by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention and doing everything in our power to ensure your safety.

However, we also know that life doesn’t stop moving forward, and because of that, we are going above and beyond to make sure you still get the service you need despite these challenging times.

 

On-Site Precautions:

  • Our employees will be staying home if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms, respiratory illness, fever, cough or shortness of breath.
  • We are educating our employees about precautions they can take to prevent the spread of this disease, including avoiding touching face, eyes, nose and mouth as much as possible and washing hands frequently.
  • Hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, tissues, soap and water are maintained in our workplace.
  • Common areas and surfaces are being kept clean, and we are sanitizing the steering wheel, center console, turn signals, wiper stock and door panels of each vehicle during our complimentary car wash.

Vehicle Service Precautions:

  • We are OPEN regular business hours in our Service and Parts Departments.  We are open Monday-Friday 7am-6pm and Saturday 8am-5pm to service your vehicles
  • We will increase our loaner fleet to assist with customers in service during this time.
  • We are offering  pick up and delivery of  your vehicles to service them.
  • We follow each vehicle service appointment and delivery with comprehensive sanitizing processes to eliminate contamination between driver transitions.

Vehicle Purchase Precautions:

Our sales department is preparing to reopen our showroom on Saturday, May 9th with guidelines from the Tri-County Health.  We are approaching this situation with a high level of respect and caution.

  • We will be practicing social distancing.  Access to hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, masks & gloves will be available
  • We have a scheduled daily cleaning & additionally, we will be cleaning offices after a customer has left.
  • We will still be conducting customer self test drives.
  • To limit exposure, we ask that you do not bring additional guests to your appointments unless absolutely necessary.

The Summer Rooftop Party

Hopefully some of you got the chance to attend the foodie event of the year - Sushi Dens 4th Annual Summer Rooftop Party. We were happy to be able to sponsor this exclusive event for the first time this year, especially since all of the proceeds went to such great causes. The Rooftop Party has taken place on the rooftop of the parking garage right by Sushi Den for the past 3 years, and offers 20 different Chefs flown in from Southern Japan two nights in a row. This year, they included 8 of Denver's top Chefs to take part as well. Other than the exquisite street food, you can also enjoy live music, award-winning sakes, and tasteful beer and wine. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were the make for a perfect summer evening. 

 The Cause 

This event was first inspired to benefit the victims of the devastating earthquake in Southern Japan in 2016, which hit their hometown very hard. Since starting this event, they have raised money to support other natural disasters that have affected the United States, their now long time home. Aside from the Rooftop Party benefiting the Kumamoto Castle Earthquake Relief, they also support a local charity called We Don't Waste. We Don't Waste supports our community and environment by reclaiming and redistributing quality food to those in need. Their team collects unused food from venues, caterers, distributors, and other food purveyors and distributes it to under-served populations. Since starting in 2009, We Don't Waste has recovered over 100 million servings of food. Great food all for a great cause!

The Food

Den Corner hand-picks and personally flies in 20 incredible Chefs from Southern Japan for this exclusive event. These Chefs personally make fresh Ramen, Hand Rolls, BBQ Seafood, BBQ Beef, and more amazing Japanese street food all right in front of you. They come to this event from all over Southern Japan, including cities like Hiroshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and more. The Next Generation at INFINITI OF DENVER

Joe Walter has been a part of our family at INFINITI OF DENVER for just over 23 years. 2 years ago, his son Max Walter started his trainee technician position working directly next to his father in our service drive, following in his dads footsteps. Working side by side each day, they both ensure our customers leave as happy as can be with their vehicles using their smart, careful approach. Joe has been a leading driver in the success of our service department and we are so happy he wants to continue his legacy he has made here onto his son. We wanted to ask them both a few questions about their time here and what makes working alongside your family member so special.

Q: How long have you both been with INFINITI OF DENVER?

J: Just over 23 years.

M: 2 years.

Q: Joe, what do you plan to teach your son about the business and pass onto him?

J: Since everything has changed so much in this business since I first started, I essentially want to teach him to stay current and constantly do research to teach himself new things. With all of the modern technology in the new cars these days, it's definitely important to be able to compete.

Q: Max, what is it like working with your dad? Do you have a favorite part about working here?

M: I actually really enjoy working with my dad. He's very knowledgeable from being in the business for so long and being so good at his job, so I learn a lot from him every day. My favorite part about working here would have to be learning new things every single day.

Q: Joe, do you want to talk about some of your accomplishments at INFINITI OF DENVER? Do you have a favorite part about working here?

J: During my 23 years here, I became Master ASE and INFINITI Technician, and Shop Foreman. My favorite part about working here would definitely have to be the satisfaction of making someones vehicle better.

Q: Max, what made you want to work for INFINITI OF DENVER?

M: It was the best opportunity for me, especially since my dad has been here for so long.
