How to Celebrate a Denver 4th of July Without Fireworks or Crowds

Nothing says Independence Day quite like a spectacular fireworks display illuminating the evening sky, but COVID-19 restrictions mean that events which draw large crowds—like lighting off fireworks—are simply out of the question.

If you’re searching for creative ways to make your Denver 4th of July memorable despite these unusual measures, then our team at INFINITI OF DENVER is here to help. We’ve compiled a list of the five best ways to celebrate a Denver 4th of July without the fireworks or the crowds. We care about our community, so we brainstormed some activities that will ensure you have an incredible holiday, while keeping your friends and family safe.

Top 6 Ways to Celebrate 4th of July Without Fireworks or Crowds

Whether the patriotism, the sense of community, the grilled hotdogs, or the excuse for a good party ranks as your favorite part of Independence Day, one of these alternatives to fireworks is bound to check all your boxes.

  1. Look for Shooting Stars

If there’s just something you love about the act of staring up at a dazzling performance in the night sky on the 4th of July, then don’t let a global pandemic stand in your way—fireworks may be canceled, but Mother Nature has a way of stepping in at the right moment.Simply pack up your family, friends, or a loved one into your INFINITI and make your way to a clearing with as little light pollution as possible. Before long, you’re bound to catch a glimpse of a few shooting stars.

  1. Host A Patriotic Barbecue

Though you may not be comfortable hosting a massive party inside of your home right now, a small cookout in your backyard can be a great way to celebrate the birth of the nation while still maintaining some social distance.Throw some food on the grill, hang some banners, and get creative with how you show your love of country with your friends and family this year.

  1. Go Camping

As a Denver native, you have access to some of the most beautiful scenery in the nation; maybe you can’t watch fireworks this 4th of July, but that doesn’t mean you can’t witness something awe-inspiring.Whether you prefer to take a lightweight approach, or you haul a whole mini camper, the 2020 INFINITI QX80 is a camping lover’s dream. Take your mountain-ready SUV out for a spin this 4th of July weekend and remind yourself how lucky you are to live in such a beautiful part of the United States!

  1. Get Crafty

Maybe you have kids and you don’t want them to lose sight of the meaning behind Independence Day, or perhaps you’re just a Pinterest addict looking for a reason to tackle a new project. Either way, crafts are an engaging way to honor the 4th of July without fireworks. For a more educational experience, you can create small American flags from felt, explaining the significance of the stars and stripes. To keep things on the lighter side, simply whipping up some red, white, and blue slime is a fun way to celebrate the day.

  1. Substitute Sparklers and Confetti

For some, it just doesn’t feel like the 4th of July without a little bit of flash and excitement. You can still create a bit of entertainment on your own this year with sparklers and red, white, and blue confetti. These handheld accoutrements of patriotism may not have quite as much pizazz as you’re used to, but they will help to add a celebratory feeling to the day.

  2. Or if you are looking for freedom with the open road and need a new vehicle, INFINITI OF DENVER is open in our Sales Department from 9am-5pm on Saturday, July 4th.  Take advantage of our Summer Event incentives including 0.00% Financing for 72 months and 90-day deferred payment on both New & Certified Pre-Owned INFINITIs.

2020’s 4th of July is certainly unusual, but that also means that it’s sure to be memorable. We hope that everyone in our community has a safe and happy 4th of July!

Safe Spring Driving Tips

Spring driving time is here!

Denver Spring Driving TipsThere's an old saying among Coloradans: If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes.  As winter eases into a typically brief spring, you might want to enjoy the season with shorts, sandals, and a drive up into the mountains with the windows down and the music blasting.  But before you do that, just remember that Colorado springtime usually means a lot of severe weather is just over the horizon.

Read some interesting facts:

  • Mountains create microclimates and what might look like a day of clear blue skies on the news report, could be anything but from area to area.
  • The months of March and April typically get more snowfall than December and January every year.
  • The snowstorms that hit often bring a lot more moisture per storm as well, which means that roads can get very icy and road closures can happen very quickly.
  • Spring weather can last anywhere between a few months or just a few weeks.  Colorado has some very radical weather conditions due to the mountains we all get to enjoy, and in spite of the 300+ sunny days every year, from thunderstorms to hail, rain to blizzards from March to June, you have to be prepared.

Denver driving

Denver started off as a small city which has grown quite a bit in the last 20 years.  Home to a diverse population of native Coloradans and transplants alike, a city of three million people and growing has a wide profile of drivers, each with their own unique history and experience in driving.

Like any city, Denver has only so much space to accommodate all these people on the road.  With major interstates threading through a dozen cities throughout the Metro area, several different weather experiences could be happening at any given moment.

Safe spring driving tips

  • Keep your INFINITI equipped with all-weather tires to handle driving in rain, snow, and ice. Observe traction laws when traveling to the mountains.
  • When driving in poor weather like rain, snow, or hail, be sure to drop your speed and to brake early, using caution for click conditions. In fact, in severe storms, we recommend that you don’t drive at all, and, instead, wait for the weather to settle.
  • Drive defensively.  Never assume the person next to you knows what they are doing.
  • Stay off your phone!  Distracted driving is the leading cause of accidents in Colorado.
  • Slow down!  Keeping at a comfortable speed below the speed limit in extreme weather makes sure you get home safely.
  • Know when to brake.  Excessive or impulsive braking only causes accidents. Even with ABS braking, your car can lose traction and slide.  Impulsively hitting the brakes only causes alarm to other drivers in slick conditions.  Don't ride the brake.  Let your vehicle's motor slow you down by taking your foot off the gas pedal.
  • Keep your distance.  Maintaining plenty of distance between yourself and the person in front of you will reduce your chances of getting into an accident.

We wish everyone a happy spring (as long or as short as it might be) from INFINITI OF DENVER.  We are offer safe, luxury vehicles and auto service for any spring situation and hope that our Colorado spring driving tips keep you and yours safe this season!

Spring Cleaning & Car Maintenance

Colorado's springtime in the Rockies means skiing in the mountains while smelling the start of the world-famous wildflowers. It's a fresh start after a snowy winter, for you, your home, and your car!

Note that spring begins a day earlier this year, starting March 19th and ending June 20th. It's the perfect time for outdoor play and an even more perfect time for spring cleaning. After a season of white snow blankets the state for three months, springtime brings out the “color” in Colorado. It's time to clean out your closets, freshen up your interior design with a splash of new color, organize your garage, aerate your lawns, and prep your gardens – but don’t forget about spring car maintenance!

Spring Car Detailing in Denver

Before you decide to stretch out your spring wheels, think about these tips to get your vehicle mechanically and aesthetically road-worthy:

  1. Check your car's vitals. That means all the tires, the brakes, and the elements under the hood. Winter's notoriously hard on the underbelly of your vehicle, so make sure that you also get it checked for salt damage.
  2. Get your vehicle detailed. It's no fun pilfering through old water bottles and sandwich wraps from last fall. Treat car maintenance like you spring clean your home. First you pick up the mess. Then INFINITI OF DENVER comes in for top-tier car detailing in Denver.

Spring Car Maintenance Checklist

When we say check your car's vitals, we mean the mechanicals, the brakes and the fluids that make your car hum. After a long winter, you need to address these maintenance items before heading out into the spring thaw.

  • Check tire pressure.
  • Check the battery.
  • Check or change the oil.
  • Check the belts and windshield wiper fluid.
  • Top off any other fluids or change them.
  • Get your brakes checked.

You can bring your car to INFINITI OF DENVER where our service team will make sure that it's running safe and sound. That's important whether your road trip is across town or up the mountain pass for a weekend of skiing.

For the most comprehensive car detailing in town, INFINITI OF DENVER addresses the whole vehicle from the inside to the outside. We will take care of your upholstery to remove out the winter stains and dirt with comprehensive vacuuming and shampooing. We clean the dash, the steering wheel, the center console, the interior windows and mirrors.

For the exterior, we do far more than your local drive-through car wash. We'll get rid of the winter salt, dirt and grime. Detailing the wheels includes scrubbing around the lug nuts and brake calipers. Then your car's paintwork gets polished and waxed. The exterior windows and mirrors are cleaned, and the entire car dried so that it looks like new. We address the undercarriage, the wheels, and the complete exterior so your vehicle looks like it’s ready for spring.

Contact us if we can help you get on your road trip sooner than later this season. We wish everyone a safe and happy spring.

The St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and Safety Checklist

Going Green and Guinness:

St. Patrick's always been associated with shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold, and getting pinched if you don't wear green. There's always a St. Patrick's Day parade, lots of corned beef and cabbage, and plenty of Guinness. St. Patrick’s Day is March 17 and has been celebrated on that day since the 17th century.

Legend has it that St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland, making him the patron saint, although he's actually British. Folklore has it that he drove out all the snakes in Ireland before his death in 461, and since then has helped to cultivate a patriotism that is nearly unmatched. There are around 35 million Americans who claim Irish ancestry – that’s seven times the population of Ireland! – and the holiday is not just celebrated by this Irish-rooted group.

Let the Celebrations Begin!

The Irish Americans and the Irish-at-heart first celebrated St. Patrick's Day in 1737 in Boston. Today, the holiday's celebrated all over the U.S. with Denver home to one of the country's largest St. Patrick's Day parades with around 200,000 expected to attend.

After Mardi Gras and New Year's Eve, St. Paddy's Day ranks third for drinking. One in three admit to binge drinking during the holiday, and it's estimated that over 13 million pints of Guinness will be consumed that day. According to WalletHub, 75 percent of St. Patrick's Day drinking and driving fatalities involved people twice over the legal .08 limit. Over half of all Americans planning to drink during the holiday will drink beer. One in five will down hard liquor and one in 10 will tag-team their drinks by imbibing both.

Here are some more sobering facts about St. Patrick's Day drinking and driving from WalletHub:

  • There's 152 percent more beer sold while more than 819 percent of Guinness than usual is drunk during the holiday.
  • Fifty-nine people died on St. Patrick's Day 2017 from drunken driving crashes. That's one death every 37 minutes.
  • Over four out of 10 who died from those crashes were between the ages of 21 and 34 (years 2013 to 2017).
  • One in three of the pedestrians who were killed over the holiday had blood alcohol levels over the legal limit of .08.

Drinking and driving is not a rite of passage on St. Patrick's Day. Celebrate the music, the food, the culture, families, and the parades. It only takes getting behind the wheel once after a few drinks to change lives forever. So we've put together a few tips to help you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day safely.

It can't be stressed enough that if you plan on drinking, don't drive. EVER. Four drinks is the average amount of drinking per person during the holiday. Always choose a designated driver, bring extra cash for a cab, spread out your drinks over several hours and make sure to eat.

Don't let your friends drive drunk. Take their keys and call them a cab. Many towns and cities have local sober ride programs that you can call for a safe drive home. Find these resources before going out on the town. Keep in mind that you don't have to drink to have fun.

Try celebrating St. Patrick’s Day sober. There's an international movement to curb drinking and driving over the St. Patrick's Day holiday. It's called Sober St. Patrick's Day. It's a non-profit group dedicated to reclaiming the holiday in honor of Irish culture and St. Patrick. By celebrating sober, more lives are saved from drinking and driving.

May the luck of the Irish be with you. Don't forget to wear green and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day safely. Remember: buzzed driving is drunk driving. Drink responsibly. We at INFINITI OF DENVER want you to stay safe and still have fun over the holiday.

Driving in Colorado Snow

Colorado can be the most beautiful state when winter arrives, but it takes some dedicated attention to ensure you can enjoy it safely. Knowing how to drive in the heavy snow that comes with the Rocky Mountains requires a fair amount of preparation. Follow winter driving tips correctly, and you can relish the holiday spirit no matter the conditions.

  • Preparation: Proper cold winter driving begins before you ever shift into gear. Keep cold-weather clothing, food and water and blankets on hand to stay safe in case you are unable to make it where you need to go. You will also want to have any helpful tools on hand, like an ice scraper, flashlight or small shovel in case the weather leaves you stranded away from home.
  • On the Road: Once you are actually driving on Colorado roads, exercise caution at every stop and around every turn. Be aware of how severe conditions are, and keep in mind how starting and stopping will be affected. It is much easier to correct slides at lower speeds, so allowing for more space from the car ahead of you will give you more time to react. Stopping on hills, accelerating through turns, and going hard on the brakes could all lead to problems.
  • Long Distances: When you venture out for long distances and the weather is working against you, make sure you go over your checklist before you leave. Equip the necessary emergency gear, look at your fuel level and check the weather before you go. Tell friends and family when you are leaving, where you are traveling and when you should arrive. If you fail to show, they will know where to find you.
  • If You Find Yourself in a Jam: In the event that you are stuck, take time to assess the situation before you act prematurely. Do what you can to enhance visibility so you and your car remain safe and can be found by roadside assistance. Stay warm by putting on layers and keep fuel usage to a minimum by only running the car when necessary.

Often the best defense for winter driving in Colorado is having a car that can handle the roads. INFINITI can answer that call, with loads of amenities built for control. Look to the likes of the 2020 standouts, like the QX50 or the QX80, available with features to keep you protected like Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and Predictive Forward Collision Warning.

And when you purchase a new INFINITI, you get free 24/7 roadside assistance in case the conditions prove too much. We will be there to get you back on your journey, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. You will even get another two years of assistance, accessible during regular dealership hours, just for doing business with us at INFINITI OF DENVER.

Some of you are probably familiar with Oktoberfest, which is a Volksfest held every year in Munich, Germany, with more than 6 million attendants that come from all over the world. This year, Denver will be hosting Oktoberfest for its 50th anniversary in our historic Ballpark Neighborhood, which typically brings in about 250,000 attendants over the six-day two-weekend event. Oktoberfest kicks off on Friday, September 20th with a ceremonial tapping of the first keg at 2:00 PM. The festival runs until that Sunday, September 22nd, and starts back up the following weekend on the 27th and runs until the 29th. Some other fun activities going on at Oktoberfest include a Stein Hoisting Contest, wiener dog races, keg bowling, live music, dancing and a new Sunday brunch experience.
